The Long Game is a website for people that want to grow and challenge themselves. It is about the drive to better ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually while having the curiosity to enjoy the journey. I will include articles, podcast, videos, and blogs on a variety of topics ranging from psychology, fitness, meditation, and nutrition.

How Curiosity Can Help You Thrive

How Curiosity Can Help You Thrive

Curiosity. We are all born with it.

As children, our curiosity about the world allowed us to learn and grow. As adolescents, we started worrying about having all the answers instead of the process of seeking the answers. As adults, if we let it, our curiosity can almost entirely disappear, resulting in an inability to learn about new subjects and ourselves.

When it comes to learning more about ourselves, it’s easy to get stuck in the pattern of “that is just the way I am.” However, we should be asking ourselves, “Why am I the way I am?”. We are the way we are because of the choices we make and the stories we tell ourselves. If we become curious about the “Why” behind the things we do, feel or say, we can move from a passive being to an active participant in our life. Curiosity helps us figure out why we do, think, act, feel or say the things we do.

Do you always seem to make the same mistakes in life, business, and relationships? Ask yourself, “why?”

One area that can help create awareness and curiosity about our patterns is the breath. When we are curious about our breathing, we learn subtle clues about what stresses us out and the habits we fall back on.

Today, do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes connecting to your breath. Stay curious about what is going on as you breathe. Notice the pace of your breath. Is it fast or slow? Become aware of where it is going in the body. Can you breathe into your belly, ribs, and chest? Can you feel the breath in your low back? Notice where your breath gets sticky. Is your breath smooth as it goes in and out, or does it get stuck? Do you pause after the inhale and exhale or rush on to your next breath?

Curiosity about our patterns allows us to change them. As with all things in life, awareness is the first step in change. When you create awareness around your breath, you create awareness around your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Change your breath and change your life!
